Dedicated mode: The device is ‘locked’ into the communication software. Access to the wider
Windows or Android interface is not possible. This mode may be selected to reduce distractions
to AAC users, or when AAC users have demonstrated the operational competency of navigating out
of the communication software, into other applications.
Non-dedicated mode: Access to the wider Windows or Android interface is possible. Restrictions
can be set within the communication software to restrict access to the interface as and when
needed (Kiosk Mode). Non-dedicated mode may be selected when AAC users are unlikely to seek
to navigate out of the communication software, and access to features in the interface are needed.
Equipment needed:
● Device
● Computer running Windows (ideally, Windows 10)
● Device charging cable
Making a dedicated device a non-dedicated device
*NB: A non-dedicated system can still be ‘locked’ into the Chat software through the use of kiosk
mode. This means that the individual cannot then exit the communication software app.

6. This process will make the device a non-dedicated.
Special Notes for devices sold prior to 2021
Most likely only the licence file will be there with dedicated codes in it. Therefore, you will have to
contact the workshop and get the non-dedicated codes. The workshop can provide codes in a file
called licence non dedi. Once you receive this file, copy it into the device where the license file
lives. Once you do that, you will see both files as per the above instructions, and then be able to
proceed with changing the device mode.
